NAVY LEAGUE OF THE UNITED STATES – HONOLULU COUNCIL HOSTS 16TH ANNUAL AMERICAN PATRIOTS AWARDS
2019 Honorees are ADM Ronald Zlatoper, USN (Ret) and Henry Kapono
The American Patriots Awards Dinner, the Navy League of the United States – Honolulu Council’s marquee event and primary fundraiser, will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort Coral Ballroom. This year’s honorees, ADM Ronald Zlatoper, USN (Ret) and local musician Henry Kapono, will be honored for their service to their community and our country, CAPT Lawrence E. Osborn, USN (Ret) and Navy League Honolulu Council President announced today.
“Each year, we look forward to saluting two outstanding American Patriots. Both ADM Zlatoper and Henry Kapono exemplify the true meaning of service and patriotism,” said Osborn.
ADM Zlatoper is a retired United States four-star admiral who served as Commander in Chief, United States Pacific Fleet (CINCPACFLT) from 1994 to 1996. Zlatoper is the Founder of Strategic Transitions Research, is a Trustee of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and is a Regent for Chaminade University, in addition to serving on numerous boards in education, military affairs and non-profit organizations.
Henry Kapono is best known for his award-winning music and live performances, but that love of music is what influenced his patriotism and devotion to service. As a musician in the late 1960’s, Kapono spent two years performing for US troops in Vietnam and Thailand.
