Cecilio and Kapono (Part 1)
Cecilio and Kapono...well I started recollecting my thoughts and jeez there is so much I can tell you, but it would be too long and I’d probably lose you, so I decided to take it one story at a time. Let’s call this Part I.
John Isara a dear friend of mine approached me when I got back from Vietnam Nam. I was there playing for the troops in a band called, “Pakalolo,” a power trio with Steve Maii and Mel Mossman. We rocked the troops, but thank God we made it home. Anyway, Johnny said I should get together with Cecilio and that we would sound great together. I knew of Cecilio from a group he was in called Unicorn. I saw them at the Red Noodle and really liked band. This was before I left for Vietnam. Well Johnny was right. He and some new friends got us together out at Northshore, Sunset, and we had dinner got acquainted and picked up our guitars and started playing. Well, when we ended playing the first song, we looked at each other and was blown away and so were our friends. By the third song we knew we had something special and we said let’s start a group. Our first practice we learned 30 songs and was ready to go. Our first gig was at the Sea Spree in Haleiwa. We opened for a rock band and blew everybody away. A year later we had that band open for us. We were just having a good time... well I’ll stop here and continue next week with more C&K stories. If you got any story I’d love to hear ‘em. I just want to thank the late Johnny Isara who was my best friend and who I dearly miss, he’s the guy that put C&K together, thx Johnny...to be continued
